Key Planning Insights for 2026

No "In-Lieu" Days: The Czech Republic does not practice the "sliding holiday" concept. If a holiday falls on a weekend (as July 5 and December 26 do in 2026), there is no compensatory day off on the following Monday.

Shopping Restrictions: According to Act No. 223/2016 Coll., stores larger than 200 square meters must remain closed on Jan 1, Easter Monday, May 8, Sep 28, Oct 28, and Dec 25–26. On Dec 24, they must close by 12:00 PM. There are no restrictions on Good Friday, May 1, July 5, July 6, or Nov 17.

Long Weekend Opportunities: In 2026, May 1 and May 8 both fall on Fridays, creating two consecutive three-day weekends. Additionally, July 6 falls on a Monday, providing another long weekend following the Sunday holiday.
