Key Planning Insights for 2027

Easter "Super Weekend": Maundy Thursday (Mar 25) through Easter Monday (Mar 29) are public holidays in 2027, creating a five-day break. Most businesses and offices close for the entire period.

The 1:00 PM Rule: Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are official holidays from 13:00. Most retail shops and supermarkets close around noon to allow early celebrations.

Summer Traditions: The First Day of Summer (Apr 22) is celebrated on the first Thursday after April 18. Despite late April, weather can remain wintry, but it is a major holiday with local parades.

Commerce Day (Aug 2): Falling on the first Monday of August, Commerce Day is Iceland’s most popular weekend for domestic travel and camping. Expect heavy traffic and fully booked accommodations.

Weekend Observance: Iceland does not move holidays to the following Monday if they fall on a weekend. In 2027, Labour Day (May 1) and Christmas Day (Dec 25) fall on Saturdays and are observed on those dates only.
